Excellent Reason refills contain the accumulation of many forms of data used in both Reason and Record. Just because you are not familiar with the nomenclature does not mean you have not used them. The Orkester Sound Bank and the Factory Sound Bank are in this configuration.
Patches are contain within this format and hold the many forms of data used within the software. Patches can act as instant presets for the various synth devices within the software. The Scream 4, RV700 Reverb, Line 6 Amp, and the ReGroove Mixer can all load patches as well. Patches are storage units for preset device configuration.
Patches can also encompass sampled sounds. The NN-XT is an advanced sampler that can load many audio samples from within a patch. Gigantic Reason refills can contain two different sample formats within a patch; either .wav or .aff. The patches also contain the preset data for the samplers.
Loops can also be contained within a patch in the form of .rx2, .rcy and .rex files. To play these file formats just load the file into one of the loop players within Reason. Rex files are now an industry standard for many audio software used by producers and artists. Rex files are basically loops that have been chopped up into smaller pieces.
Powerful Reason refills can also accommodate full song data. Record song files can also be included. A song file can be composed of loops, samples, patches, midi data, automating data and your rack setup. If you want to be able to send your song file to other to work on simply use the "self contained" feature within the application.
When you can include so many different formats of information into a single file type you have hit the mark in usability. This type of component packaging allows for highly compressed file sizes with no loss of audio quality. No need for 1000's of different files when you are using the power and organization of enormous Reason refills.
