Tips to Achieve Powerful Voice Resonance

By Earl Watson

Voice resonance is usually referred to as the quality of someone's voice. I am sure that everyone has heard the sound of their own voice on the phone or answering machine before. Is your voice deep, rich and full? Or perhaps is it high, sharp, and penetrating. The sound of your voice that you hear off the answering machine is basically based upon your vocal resonance.

As we have analyzed previously, sound is created by the swiftness and vibration of air by means of the vocal cords. Resonance is determined by the cavity in which these air vibrations develop. Imagine the difference between a violin and cello. Both devices have a common string structure, but the major variations in sound quality come from the variations in configuration of the hallow cavity that the strings vibrate over.

In men and women, the hallow cavities are found in your throat, mouth, chest and nasal cavities. The differences in the capacities of your physical cavities is the reason why folks have distinctive sounding voices. When you have a cold, and your sinuses get obstructed, your voice also does not resonate as well. This describes why individuals have an inclination to sound silly when they're sick.

Try practicing the following voice resonance training to improve your unique sound quality. Hum any note at a pleasant pitch. Move the pitch slightly lower. You ought to pay particular focus on the way your chest feels. Keep the note and continue to hum until you can feel the rumbling in your chest. Be sure to raise the intensity of the humming vibration. Next, move the pitch slightly two octaves higher and pay special attention to how your head feels. Feel the vibration in your head and chest and try to increase the intensity of the humming vibration. Open your mouth and hum until you feel the vibration inside your tongue and lips, at the rear of and above the mouth area. Persist with humming till you can experience the differences. Attempt to grow the vibration intensity. Refocus your attention to the vibrations in your chest once more. Repeat this exercise 5 times, thinking about how to finish the exercise with the focus on your chest to be able to create a full, vibrant sound.

Warning: refrain from driving oxygen while you are humming. At the same time remember to breath frequently. Stop if you get light headed.
