Anybody dreaming of becoming an actor must have the patience and the will to become one. The profession calls for hard work and vigor and must be taken seriously. While acting is basically a rewarding career, however, the opportunity for this field is very minimal, hence the competition is stiff.

Becoming a professional actor is a serious commitment. For this reason, you should make the necessary preparation on your way to fulfilling your dreams. You need to acquire necessary experiences in the field. You don't need to go to New York or Florida to get started; there are talent agencies in many cities, many with good reputations. Make sure they're licensed and don't ask for fees upfront.

It is also equally important to acquire knowledge in the field of acting. Remember that good actors study their entire lives. To achieve this end, you may enroll in an acting class. You can refer to professionals in the field of acting as to the school that offers best in that field.

Get a nice headshot or model composite. This is to make an excellent representation of yourself. Let it be taken in different poses, moods, and expressions in order to give prospective employers a better understanding of your capability to represent different roles. To achieve the best result, it is always better to have your headshot taken by a professional.

Build your dreams by composing a resume, which include among others, of your finished tasks. Compose it in a way that you will be able to express yourself fully by informing the reader who you are, what you have done and what can you do. As you acquire more experience, you may eliminate the less professional experience from your resume. This will give a nice picture of what you done so far.

After going through the aforementioned tips, you are now ready to look for opportunities. Make your presence known by sending your resume together with a headshot to all casting directors and agents. Attach a comprehensive cover letter to let them know of your intentions. Your resume may not be acted upon at once, hence, be patient to remind them of your continuous intention by sending them follow-up postcards every once in a while, every four or six months maybe. It would be better if you keep them abreast of the latest about you by updating them of your current acting projects.

Be informed of what is going on around you. Regularly reading trade papers such as "Dramalogue," "Backstage," and "The Ross Reports" would be an advantage.
