Stocking Up On Disney DVD Game World: Disney Princess Edition

By Steve Collins

Letting your kids zone out in front of the television is a poor substitute for time and attention. But, on those rare occasions or those long sick days, there is something rather comforting about a DVD -- specifically a Disney DVD. Since my daughter loves Disney and all the Disney Princesses, I thought I would treat her to Disney DVD Game World: Disney Princess Edition.

The so-called Mouse has become a generational company. That means you tend to share the films you enjoyed when you were growing up with your kids. Then, in turn, your kids will pass on the same films. It's brilliant marketing, but more than that, it's just good storytelling. With the Disney DVD Game World, my daughter can interact with her favorite princesses, Ariel and Jasmine, in a way an ordinary film wouldn't allow.

Disney, in its infinite wisdom, has not passed up to opportunity to market to young boys and their dads. The Disney DVD game selection includes contributions from Peter Pan and Dumbo as well. But, really I think Warner Brothers fair appeals more to boys than Disney -- and this entire Princesses angle is proof of that. Until Disney buys the rights to Batman, it'll be hard going for boy audiences.

Disney movies are made just for children. Now that Disney controls the titles of a number of other studios, their library has grown to include lots of "grown up" movies, too. Those who grew up depending on the studio for great entertainment can be just as assured of super entertainment in adulthood. Case in point: Ice Princess -- don't laugh.

Owning Disney DVDs means you always have the classics you love most right at your fingertips. They make marvelous gifts, too. For those with small children around, it is good to be able to pull out a special movie and snuggle up on a quiet afternoon. Now, I'm not advocating you spend an entire paycheck on all your Disney favorites, but as a parent I can tell you it pays to have a small library of go-to entertainment on hand.
