What to Do if You Don't Get a Call Back: The Options

By Roberta Fowler

It is essential as a model that you know exactly what to do if you don't get a call back. A job is at stake and, no matter how negligent your prospective employer is being leaving you to hang on, you already believe the job should be yours after dazzling during the interview. Neglecting to call you back is careless on the company's part, but is particularly exasperating for a devoted model. But let's look at the options open to you. Also, consult your licensed talent agency for advice on how to deal with this frustrating situation; if they're honest, they'll give it to you straight.

You believe you strolled through the interview on Tuesday, impressing with a beautifully presented portfolio. Not only that you sent a pleasant and amiable thank you letter as a follow-up. All the interviewees were told that a model would be chosen by the end of this week, but you are sure it will be you and cannot wait to begin the catalog shoot. However, it is reached Friday without a call back and you are becoming concerned.

So many questions are running through your mind about what to do if you do not get a call back. But, really, it all comes down to whether you should contact the company today or wait until next week? Yes, you should call the interviewer, but it would be prudent to hang off until Tuesday, when an office is not quite as busy.

Also, the next few days give you the opportunity to prepare exactly what to ask. Tuesday comes and you feel sure of yourself and attentive when keying in the company's number, only to be greeted by a recording and voice mail. You don't hang up, but leave a clear and precise message stating your name, the interview date, and ask whether the cover girl post is still to be filled. Leave your contact details, as well, in case they do call back today, and say thanks to close your message.

Stay determined but not a nuisance. If the company still doesn't return your call, consider trying twice more to advise them that other modeling posts are open to you but you want to work with them before any others. If that fails to garner a response, it's likely you have not won the contract.

With any luck, you'll get someone on the other end of the line. If so, take advantage of this piece of good fortune to seek feedback on your portfolio, as well as your interviewing techniques. You may encounter a friendly sort and receive good advice and tips on how to improve. Take criticism on board.

Companies, in the main, recognize that interviewees are on edge so call them back on the stated date. But some won't. Really, if a company doesn't have the courtesy to inform you that you've not been successful, would you even want to work for them?

For now, do not concern yourself with what to do if you do not get a call back from that company and definitely do not wait around for them. Alternatively, consider making changes to your portfolio but at the same time seek out other modeling jobs.
